Why digital accessibility matters

Too often, digital accessibility is treated as a “nice to have” or a box to tick for compliance, when really, it’s about whether people can use the digital products and services we build at all. In Ireland, Census 2022 shows that more than 1.1 million people, 22% of the population, live with a long‑lasting condition or disability. That’s one in five Irish people interacting daily with digital services they rely on for essential needs, such as, healthcare, education, government support, shopping, banking, and staying connected. When those services aren’t accessible, people are excluded by design.
