Retail Ireland May Monitor

Consumer sentiment fell to a two year low in April. This marks the sharpest monthly decline since September 2022 and the lowest sentiment level in just over two years, since March 2023. This reflects growing unease amid heightened geopolitical tensions and fears of major new global trade barriers. At the same time, retail sales figures are broadly positive. Consumer concerns have yet to translate into significant changes in purchasing patterns, and future spending plans remain in place. It’s a volatile backdrop, but on the ground the good weather has been a positive factor in sales over recent weeks. Let’s hope it continues.
