No decision yet as to whether statutory sick leave days will increase in 2025

Despite a number of recent media reports that the Government has confirmed that it will not increase the number of statutory sick leave days in 2025, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) has confirmed that, as of date, no decision has been made.

In a submission to Government earlier this month, Ibec has highlighted a number of key concerns with the proposed Sick Leave Bill 2021.  The new law is not now expected to take effect before Summer 2022 due to the level of operational detail yet to be addressed.

Ruling of German Labour Court limits Unions' digital access rights

The digital path is an obvious approach for trade unions to recruit new members in the digital age but to what extent must employers provide unions with digital access in the workplace? The answer is not at all, according to a recent ruling of the Federal Labour Court in Germany which found that employers are not obliged to grant trade unions access to employees via the company's internal digital communication channels.

Our member companies are involved in broadband, broadcasting, cable, data centres, fixed, mobile, satellite and wireless internet as well as equipment manufacturers and network providers. We represent industry to key external stakeholders and engage regularly with ministers, public representatives, government departments, regulators, local authorities and the media. We advise and assist our member companies on issues relevant to the sector. The telecoms sector employs 25,000 people and generates substantial VAT and other tax revenues for the Exchequer. Approximately €2.75bn has been invested in the network over the past 5 years.

Female statistician at semi state advisory service awarded 40000 in pay equality case at WRC

Along with the €40,000 award, the Workplace Relations Commission also ordered the organisation to pay the female statistician arrears since 2017. This is likely to amount to close to €100,00 based on figures provided by the employee to the WRC.
