The Low Pay Commission (“the LPC”) has published their report on sub-minimum youth rates of the National Minimum Wage (“NMW”). The report was published on 11 June 2024 and recommended the abolition of all sub-minimum rates for all employees.
Display Screen Equipment Eyecare Requirements
The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Application) Regulations 2007, Chapter 5 of Part 2 (“the Regulations”) outline the requirements that must be adhered to in relation to Display Screen Equipment. Under the Regulations, the employer is required to ensure that the provision of an appropriate eye and eyesight test is made available to every employee who habitually uses display screen equipment as a significant part of his or her normal work. This includes when the employee is working remotely and in the current context, the employer should ensure that this requirement is being adhered to. It is also important to note that optical benefits do not include VDU eye and eyesight tests.

The Employment and Youth Engagement Charter is a new government initiative to help jobseekers who are struggling to move into employment by enlisting help from businesses and employers. Minister Humphreys announces the publication of landmark legislation for the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System
The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD, on 5 April announced the publication of the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Bill 2024. The Bill will pave the way for around 800,000 workers to be enrolled into a retirement savings scheme for the first time from January 2025.
