Becoming a parent can be a challenging time and employees will have diverse needs depending on their particular journey. For an expectant parent this can be a transitionary time, particularly for the pregnant employee and they can be helped immensely through the support and assistance of their employer. Often there is concern from employers regarding what is and is not okay to talk about with an employee who is becoming a parent. Balancing social and personal needs with the demands of work can be difficult and may require a rethink of how employers manage and provide support. In a changing world where the life-stages of people in the organisation may result in transitions which change the way people work, employers need to rethink how they manage and support this new working environment.
