Fuel protests, commute disruption and managing attendance at work
Ibec recognises that in exceptional circumstances, such as the current fuel protests and blockades, employees may face situations where they are unable to attend work due to reduced access to fuel or public transport difficulties.
Recent demonstrations involving slow-moving convoys and the blockading of fuel terminals have severely restricted the availability of petrol and diesel at forecourts and have blocked major transport arteries. We recognise that this may curtail workers’ access to transport and/or face significant delays on roads and public transport routes.
The following are some guidelines for consideration by employers where worker attendance is impacted.
