COVID-19 business priorities

The unprecedented economic shock to business precipitated by COVID-19 requires the introduction a new set of emergency measures. In response, Ibec has called for the introduction of strong emergency income continuance measures for employees impacted by this crisis.

The Ibec team has developed a model for these measures which includes employer and employee features, baseline cost assumptions and the scale of resources required. The main elements of Ibec’s proposals are as follows:

• A state subvention of 70% of basic salary for impacted employees.
• Employers continue to pay and Government payment made to employers within a 7 day notification period.
• An online platform for Revenue to manage and process the applications.
• Initial duration of 20 weeks but option for extension.

As part of our lobbying efforts, Ibec is in ongoing contact with Cabinet Ministers, politicians and departmental officials to influence the outcome of a Government announcement on this matter in the coming days.  Please find a link below to our proposal.
