New rules on sharing of tips, gratuities and services charges amongst employees

The Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022 was signed into law on 20 July 2022. The Act, which requires a Ministerial Order to commence, introduces new rules about how employers share tips, gratuities and service charges amongst employees. It also makes it illegal for employers to use tips or gratuities to make up basic wage.

False self-employment reforms must support genuine entrepreneurship

A new stand-alone unit set up by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is due to start work next month with the aim of tackling complex cases of bogus self-employment. Ibec has said the consistency of the approach taken by the new body will be critical to ensuring the success of this measure.

The government has launched a new pilot scheme, operated by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, to support artists and creative arts workers. The Basic Income for the Arts pilot scheme (BIA) provides financial support for practicing artists to recognise the value of unpaid work in creative practice.
