Supporting the workplace mental health conversation

Ibec is delighted to be partnering with Mental Health First Aid Ireland in 2023 and we welcome them as our strategic partner for National Workplace Wellbeing Day!

From Mental Health First Aid Ireland:

"Mental Health First Aid Ireland is delighted to be supporting National Workplace Wellbeing Day 2023.  For us mental health is treaded throughout wellbeing initiatives, either directly or indirectly and should remain a strategic priority for employers and employees alike.

We believe, you don’t just suddenly get unwell, while you might just suddenly notice.  As we consider a holistic approach to health, be it mental fitness, physical health or social health, maybe we could notice things earlier.  Maybe we could offer support or help earlier too."

- Donal Scanlan, Manager Mental Health First Aid Ireland

Video introduction to Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial help given to someone who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health difficulty or who is in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional support is received or until the crisis resolves.

How to get involved?

MHFAI offers on-site training throughout the country, or online facilitation.  They can facilitate up to 20 persons when delivered face-to-face and up to 15 persons when delivered online, via Zoom and training is generally delivered over 2 consecutive days. They also host ‘public’ courses that individuals or small groups can book on to.

They endeavour to fully support organisations with a broad mental health conversation and the implementation of their MHFAiders / champions / ambassadors.  To this end, they also offer awareness sessions for staff and line-managers, and support recruiting of MHFAiders and offer refresher training into the future. Their vision is a supportive community in Ireland with a willingness to address mental health problems when they arise and enable recovery.
