President Higgins signs the Work Permits Bill 2022
The Employment Permits Bill 2022 was signed into law by President Higgins on 25 June. Among other measures, the new legislation will grant workers on employment permits the freedom to change employer after a period of nine months has elapsed.

Central Bank of Ireland's consultation period on the IAF ends on 12 June
The Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023, became law on 9 March 2023. The new law is designed to improve governance, performance and accountability in regulated firms. Following the enactment of the new legislation, the Central Bank published a Consultation Paper for affected firms. Financial Services Ireland will continue to engage with members in advance of the deadline of 12 June reflect their views in its submission. Statutory Sick Leave and Illness/Injury Benefit in 2024
Due to a high volume of queries from members in relation to Illness Benefit, Injury Benefit and Statutory Sick Leave in 2024, Ibec has recorded a webinar with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the Department of Social Protection on the topic. This is an is an invaluable opportunity for employers to hear about how the increase in the number of days of statutory sick leave in 2024 impacts illness benefit 'waiting days' for all employees who have more than 13 weeks of service (including those employees covered by more favourable company sick pay schemes).
The webinar also references recent case law under the Sick Leave Act 2022.
Over 600 apprentices now engaged in Manufacturing Engineering and Polymer Apprenticeships
Ibec’s Irish Medtech Association and Polymer Technology Ireland, the Ibec groups which represents the medtech, and polymer sectors, celebrated over 600 apprentices now engaged with the Manufacturing Technician Level 6, Manufacturing Engineer Level 7 and Polymer Processing Technologist Level 7 apprenticeship programmes at special ‘Talent to Thrive’ event hosted by the Irish Medtech Association Board at The G Hotel, 27 September.
