Restrictions on certain redundancy rights extended again until 30 September
The right of an employee to trigger a redundancy claim following a period of lay-off or short time work due to Covid has been suspended again until 30 September 2021. However, government has signalled that there will be no further deferrals after that date.

Ibec welcomes Budget 2024's investment ambition
Ibec, the group representing Irish businesses, welcomes the Government’s investment ambition set out in Budget 2024, particularly the establishment of the National Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund. The Labour Court issue their recommendation on pay increases for childcare sector workers
A Joint Labour Committee (JLC) meeting took place on 25 September to discuss the recommendations with a view to formulating proposals. Following a vote, the recommendations for both ERO 1 and ERO 2 were accepted and the proposals will now be issued for public consultation which will take place over a 3 week period.
Budget 2026: Engineering sector calls for introduction of state-backed Export Credit Insurance Scheme amid US tariffs
Engineering Industries Ireland (EII), the Ibec group representing the engineering sector, is calling for the establishment of a State backed Export Credit Insurance Scheme to mitigate risks in the current trading environment, such as the recently introduced 15% US export tariff.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys, speaking at the National Pensions Summit in Dublin on February 1st, reaffirmed that the State’s new auto-enrolment pension scheme will be delivered in 2024 with the first enrolments expected by the end of this year.
New draft EU rules for Platform or Gig Economy Workers
The European Commission unveiled draft rules this month that aim to ensure that people working through digital labour platforms can avail of labour rights and social benefits.
