Grace period for IRP card renewals extended to 12 weeks

The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has extended the grace period for IRP card holders from 8 to 12 weeks. Where an individual’s IRP card has expired and they have applied to renew their permission before the date of expiry, they may continue to work on the basis of their expired IRP card for 12 weeks.

Where an individual does not apply to renew their permission before the date of expiry, the 12 week extension does not apply.

Employers should seek a copy of the email confirmation received by the IRP card holder when they renewed their application. This confirmation should contain an OREG number as evidence of application.
