Launch of new Ibec Brussels Office, and celebrating Hamilton Day next week

October 14, 2022

The latest CEO update to Ibec membership from Danny McCoy.

Dear Member,

It has been a busy fortnight for Ibec internationally. We were delighted to welcome over 200 senior political, policy and business stakeholders to the opening of our new office in Brussels on Wednesday. MEPs from across the political spectrum as well as senior officials from the European Commission, Council and Ireland’s Permanent Representation were all in attendance. The new office opening marks Ibec’s ongoing commitment to working on and influencing European policy and an exciting new chapter for Ibec Global.

In addition, Ibec attended the 60th Anniversary event of Business at the OECD in Paris where Mathias Cormann, OECD Secretary General gave a keynote address last week. Ibec President and CEO, Coillite, Imelda Hurley participated in an important panel on the evolution of Public-Private Partnerships.

Lastly, on Monday next week we are delighted to once again to partner with the Royal Irish Academy to celebrate Hamilton Day. Hamilton Day commemorates a ground-breaking discovery by one of Ireland’s most famous scientists. On 16 October 1843, William Rowan Hamilton discovered quaternion algebra, while walking along the Royal Canal from Dunsink Observatory to the Royal Irish Academy (RIA).  A portion of the day is hosted in Ibec HQ, and culminates with the RIA Hamilton Lecture 2022, titled 'Cryptography: Secrets and Lies, Knowledge and Trust' at Trinity College Dublin, delivered by Professor Avi Wigderson, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University.  To register to attend this free of change event click HERE

I encourage you to listen to our latest Ibec Voices episode, where I am joined by Dr Mary Canning, Royal Irish Academy President, and Professor Avi Widgerson to discuss Hamilton Day celebrations. Listen here.

As always if you have any feedback or queries, please let me know.

Best regards,

Danny McCoy
