On 25 November, Ibec is partnering with GORM, a migrant-led intercultural consultancy and award-winning social enterprise that blends rigorous industry and academic insights with lived experience, to host a one-hour, in-person seminar on Intercultural & Anti-Racist Practice in the Workplace.

This event is taking place at the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, in Dublin.

Context
We are all observing the complex and challenging public discourse taking place in Ireland today. The rise in anti-immigrant sentiment, the spread of misinformation, and the deeply concerning instances of social unrest and racist attacks are not just headlines; they create a tangible sense of fear and division that impacts our communities and, absolutely, our colleagues.

Racial attacks and targeting of minority groups are increasing and racism is an unacceptable experience in  many people’s daily lives in our society. Research conducted by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission in 2023 found that more than one in four people who are not of white, Irish ethnicity experienced racism in the previous 12 months. Today, we are at a critical juncture. The question is no longer “Does racism exist here?” It is, “What are we prepared to do about it?’.

How we act
Workplaces are microcosms of society and influence social, economic and cultural environments in which people live and work. Business leaders who recognise this use their position of leadership to set a standard for how individuals should treat one another and normalise positive behaviours in the workplace  and beyond.

In this climate, the role of the workplace as a source of stability, integration, and mutual respect has never been more critical. As business leaders, we have a profound opportunity and responsibility to champion inclusion, not just as a policy, but as a fundamental practice in our organisations.

This requires us to move beyond good intentions. It demands genuine intercultural competence and the confidence to lead and support our diverse teams vocally and with clarity and empathy.

How we act together
To help you lead this vital work, Ibec is proud to partner with GORM, a migrant-led intercultural consultancy and award-winning social enterprise. GORM brings a unique and powerful perspective, blending rigorous industry and academic insights with invaluable lived experience.

We invite you and your colleagues to join us for a one-hour, in-person seminar.
This session is designed to equip Ibec members, particularly HR professionals, and DEI leads with the tools to confidently address intercultural engagement and racial inclusion in the workplace. Dr. Mamobo Ogoro, Social psychologist and GORM founder will facilitate a structured, evidence-based session which frames anti-racism as a leadership opportunity, rather than a moral failing.

Participants will learn to diagnose their organisation's current stage of anti-racism maturity and how to effectively move beyond risk-averse silence or reactive policies to foster truly inclusive cultures. You will leave with a three-pronged framework to assess and improve their strategy across Policy, People, and Public Engagement.

You should attend to:
● Understand what it means to be an anti-racist organisation in today's Ireland
● Explore real-life examples of inclusive communication around race and ethnicity
● Learn the difference between performative gestures and sustained action
● Discover language that is both brave and safe in multi-stakeholder settings
● Reflect on internal and external gaps in race inclusion and begin mapping a tailored roadmap

This is a critical conversation for every business serious about its people, its culture, and its future performance. Places are limited to ensure a high-quality, interactive session. We strongly encourage you to register early to secure your attendance.

The seminar will be led by Dr. Mamobo Ogoro, Ph.D., a Nigerian-Irish Social Psychologist and multi-award-winning social entrepreneur.
