Refusing a reasonable instruction - lessons from case law

Should an employee fail to follow a reasonable and lawful instruction by the employer in the workplace, it is likely to amount to a breach of contract. Such a breach is commonly characterised as misconduct or in some circumstances serious or even gross misconduct.

Ibec welcomes update to guidance to support SME participation in public procurement

Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, welcomes the publication of the new Government guidance to support SME participation in public procurement. The update builds on the aspirations of circular 10/14: Initiatives to assist SMEs in public procurement, and was developed in collaboration with Ibec and other industry bodies.

Pay Transparency in the EU

The Pay Transparency Directive was adopted in June 2023 and will require employers across the EU to either implement for the first-time gender pay gap reporting or where gender pay gap reporting is already in existence, the Directive aims to expand the scope of those requirements. As part of an EU initiative aimed at strengthening the principal of equal pay for equal work between men and women the Directive is due to be transposed into Irish law on or before the 6th of June 2026.
