Irish Medtech Skillnet, one of 70 Skillnet Ireland Business Networks nationwide, has launched Europe’s first Master's in End-to-End Sterility Assurance with Atlantic Technological University (ATU). Sterility Assurance is a critical component of the production and manufacturing processes for medical devices. Sterility Assurance testing is deployed to ensure that products are free from harmful microorganisms, which could pose a significant risk to patient safety. Medtech companies perform sterility assurance testing to identify any potential contamination during the manufacturing process and confirm the effectiveness of their sterilisation methods. Routine sterility assurance testing is a regulatory requirement for medical device manufacturers in many countries, including the EU and the United States.

New right to postpone maternity leave in cases of illness signed into law
The Maternity Protection, Employment Equality and Preservation of Certain Records Act 2024 amends the Maternity Protection Act 1994 by the insertion of a new section which introduces an entitlement in the Act for an employee who requires ongoing treatment for a serious health condition, including physical and mental health conditions, to postpone maternity leave for a period of between 5 and 52 weeks.
Changes to right to work requirements for spouses and partners of General Employment Permit holders
On 15th May, the Minister for Justice and Enterprise, Trade and Employment announced that eligible spouses and partners of General Employment Permit and Intra-Corporate Transferee Irish Employment Permit holders, who have applied for, and have been granted family reunification, in accordance with the Non-EEA Family Reunification Policy, will now be registered on a Stamp 1G permission, rather than a Stamp 3.
