Sick Leave Act 2022

The Sick Leave Act 2022 came into operation on the 1 January 2023. The initial entitlement to statutory sick leave was for up to three days pay for certified illness in a calendar year. This entitlement increased to five days on 1 January 2024. The intention is for the leave to increase as follows: 7 days per calendar year in 2025 10 days per calendar year in 2026

The Prepared Consumer Foods (PCF) sector is made up of companies producing value-added food and beverages and selling domestically or internationally to grocery or convenience retail, food service or other food companies. The sector includes prepared consumer foods, ingredients, value-added seafood, value-added horticulture and non-alcoholic beverages. The Prepared Consumer Foods Directorate of Food Drink Ireland (FDI) is the leading representative body for companies in the PCF sector, delivering advocacy, information, advice and networking opportunities. It ensures that the key issues for the sector are recognised and understood by policy makers at national and EU level. The PCF Council meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the main challenges facing the sector. It is chaired by Kevin Donnelly, Managing Director of Britvic Ireland.

New Sectoral Employment Order for workers in the Construction Sector commencing on 18 September 2023

Following an application by the BATU, Connect, OPATSI, SIPTU and UNITE to the Labour Court to review the terms and conditions of workers in the construction sector, the Labour Court submitted its recommendations under Section 16 of the Act to the Minister of State for Employment Affairs and Retail Business.

Neale Richmond, Minister of State for Employment Affairs and Retail Business accepted the Labour Court recommendation, meaning the SEO will commence on the 18 September 2023.
