Draft Directive on adequate minimum wages
The presidency of the Council and European Parliament negotiators recently reached a provisional political agreement on the draft directive on adequate minimum wages in the EU. In October 2020, the EU Commission published proposals for a Directive on adequate minimum wages within the EU with the aim of increasing the access of workers to minimum wage protection. In all member states, the Commission proposal aims at promoting collective bargaining on wages and improving the enforcement and monitoring of minimum wage protection.

In recent weeks the Labour Court overturned an earlier WRC Adjudicator’s decision (ADJ-00032324) that an employee was entitled to claim for retrospective payment of alleged underpayment of annual leave back to the date of his commencement of employment in 1999.
Government approves legislation banning NDAs in cases of sexual harassment and allowing delay in maternity leave in cases of serious illness
Roderic O’Gorman (Minister for Children, Equality Disability, Integration and Youth) on 25 July welcomed the approval by the Government of the Maternity Protection (Amendment) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill.
Along with a ban on NDAs in cases of sexual harassment and allowing delay in maternity leave is cases of serious illness, the new legislation will see introduction of statutory right to maternity leave for members of the Oireachtas.
