Supreme Court rules legal representation not necessary to ensure fairness of disciplinary process

An Irish Rail inspector has lost his bid to have legal practitioners represent him at a disciplinary hearing. Chief Justice Clarke noted that he could see nothing in the allegation that would put the process beyond the competence of an experienced trade union official.

The European Union Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions Regulations 2022

The European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) Regulations 2022, S.I. 686/2022 (the “Regulations”) were signed into law on 16 December 2022. The Regulations give effect to Directive 2019/1152 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union. The Regulations amend a number of pieces of employment legislation which introduce new obligations for employers and limit the use of certain clauses in contracts of employment. We set out the main changes affecting employers.
