Ibec advises retention of subminimum youth rates

In a recent submission to the Low Pay Commission Ibec has said the removal of the sub minima rates which are currently paid to young people would add significantly to business costs at a time of sizable employment cost increases. In addition, removal of the rates undermine an important incentive to recruit, train and mentor younger less-experienced workers and, in doing so, diminish the prospects of young people gaining valuable employment.
