Opinion of the CJEU Advocate General says that the Adequate Minimum Wage Directive should be annulled
It is stated within the 2025-2029 Programme for Government published on 15 January that the new government will publish an action plan for collective bargaining in 2025 in line with commitments under the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages in the European Union. It is worth noting that this month also saw the issuing of a non-binding opinion from the Advocate General of the CJEU that the Directive should be annulled on the basis that it is regulating wages directly, which is not within the EU's authority and which the AG believes runs counter to Article 153(5) on the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
