Irish Spirits Education Expands Across Ireland's Leading Hospitality Schools
Strategic Initiative Strengthens Future Hospitality Industry Leaders’ Connection to Irish Spirits.
The Irish Gin Working Group’s education initiative, launched in 2024, has resumed with renewed momentum for the 2025–26 academic year. The programme is designed to embed knowledge and appreciation of Irish Whiskey, Irish Cream, Irish Poitín, and Irish Gin among second-year Culinary Arts and Hospitality students—the future owners, managers, and decision-makers of hotels, restaurants, and venues both in Ireland and abroad.
Programme Reach and Expansion
- Technological University Dublin (TUD), Grangegorman
- South East Technological University (SETU), Waterford
- Munster Technological University (MTU), Cork
- Technological University of Shannon (TUS), Athlone
- Shannon College of Hotel Management (SCHM), Shannon
- Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Letterkenny
Building on successful lectures at TUD and SETU in 2024, the programme now extends to four additional institutions, significantly broadening its national footprint.
Early Engagement and Student Response
Lectures recommenced in November at TUD and MTU, with strong attendance and enthusiastic participation reported. This early success underscores the appetite among students for deeper knowledge of Ireland’s spirits heritage and its role in hospitality excellence.
Industry Collaboration
The initiative continues to benefit from active industry support. Special recognition to Dave at Dingle Distillery and Oisín at Clonakilty Distillery, who delivered the first Irish Whiskey lectures of the new academic cycle, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to authentic, industry-led education.
