Aircraft Leasing Ireland data highlights global leadership of Irish leasing firms
- Figures show significant reach and importance of ALI member firms
- Strong investment in new-technology aircraft underlines sustainability progress
- Research released ahead of 2025 Aircraft Leasing Ireland summit
Firms who are members of Aircraft Leasing Ireland (ALI), and the groups of which they are part, manage aircraft worth more than $315bn (€274bn), according to new data. This accounts for 69% of the value of all global leased aircraft.
The figures showcase the significant global reach and importance of Ireland’s aircraft leasing sector, as well as the progress being made on sustainability. ALI, the Ibec trade association representing aircraft leasing in this country, compiled and released the figures ahead of its 2025 Aircraft Leasing Ireland summit, which takes place today.
In total, the firms manage 9,504 aircraft and have a further 2,383 aircraft currently on order. More than 95% of the aircraft on order are new-technology aircraft, and more than 80% of them are ordered either from Boeing or Airbus. With new-technology aircraft delivering an improved sustainability performance, the investment in the next generation of the fleet shows the progress the sector is making in this regard. Almost two-thirds (62%) of the firms’ fleet, by value, is accounted for by new-technology aircraft.
While 41% of global aircraft are leased, the leased fleet accounts for 49% of the total value of global aircraft, underscoring how aircraft leasing is facilitating investment in new, more efficient technology. In total, ALI members and the groups of which they are part manage 64% of the global number of leased aircraft (9,504 out of 14,678), the figures show.
Today’s ALI summit brings together senior aviation leaders to share knowledge and insights on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector today.
Speaking ahead of the Summit, ALI Chair Karl Griffin said: “These figures demonstrate the extraordinary scale and contribution of Ireland’s aircraft leasing industry. In particular it is heartening to see the strong level of investment in new-technology, more efficient aircraft. This investment, coupled with the industry’s support of sustainable aviation fuel, underscores how the sector is embracing the sustainability challenge.”
The 2025 Aircraft Leasing Ireland Summit runs through today, featuring panels on sustainability, innovation, talent development, aircraft manufacturing and more.
