The Irish Bread Bakers Association (IBBA) represents the interests of the Irish bread industry. It is affiliated with Food Drink Ireland (FDI), a business sector within Ibec. Our members include such household names as Brennan’s Bread, Irish Pride, Johnson Mooney & O’Brien and Pat the Baker.
Consumers in Ireland spend over €400 million on bread and bread products annually, with wrapped bread the most popular bread-type, according to statistics from Bord Bia. Total volume is approximately 250 million units, the equivalent of almost 5 million loaves baked freshly every week.
Bread contains many nutrients such as iron, calcium and B vitamins while some varieties are also fortified with vitamin D and seeds, making bread a major contributor to the nutrient intake of the Irish diet. Additionally, bread is such a versatile and inexpensive food, that it can be included at all meals to provide energy.
The IBBA works with its members to communicate the nutritional benefits of bread and its role in a balanced and healthy diet. It also closely monitors all issues affecting the membership including retail issues, competition and retail law and regulatory developments.
IBBA members are committed to achieving the highest standards in sustainable production and practices. It’s members actively address key issues such as sustainable sourcing, reducing waste and engaging in their local communities.
