CEO Update: All-Island Ibec and CBI Conference – Delivering Competitiveness Through Smarter Regulation and Sustainable Energy

June 13, 2025

Dear member,

Yesterday, the annual Ibec and Confederation of British Industry (CBI) All-Island Economy Conference took place in Dundalk, with Taoiseach Micheál Martin joining business leaders and stakeholders from across the island to discuss opportunities for aligned policy support from both governments that could unlock economic potential and broaden the benefits of cross-border cooperation.

The business community north and south emphasised that more must be done to strengthen and future-proof the all-island economy across trade, infrastructure, sustainability, workforce integration, private investment, and long-term resilience.

We welcome the Taoiseach’s remarks reaffirming the need to be bolder and more ambitious around growing all-island trade and investment opportunities, particularly within the context of a more uncertain global landscape.

Ahead of the new Cost of Business Advisory Forum on Wednesday, Ibec identified over 48 key regulatory issues for business as part of Ibec’s latest publication ‘Our regulatory ambition’. As featured in The Irish Times the paper outlines how Ireland must have effective, well-resourced and proportionate regulation which is critical infrastructure for a thriving modern economy, boosting growth and innovation.

On Wednesday 18th June, we are launching ‘Our energy ambition’ delivering an energy system which is competitive for industry, provides security of supply and helps us meet our climate commitments.

To mark the launch, our Chief Economist Gerard Brady will host a live webinar featuring contributions from our expert panel exploring key themes identified in our regulatory and energy papers.

Regards,

Danny McCoy,

Ibec CEO
