Ibec political engagement on Covid roadmap

August 24, 2021

Dear member,

Yesterday evening, I wrote to An Taoiseach and the Cabinet members to request that the views of the business community be reflected in the upcoming revised Covid roadmap expected to be published next week. A copy of the letter can be found attached.

While business recognises that society will need to live with Covid for some time to come, the success of the vaccination programme means that the risks to public health have been significantly reduced.

It is time that greater personal responsibility for individuals and autonomy for businesses in their office operations forms the core of the approach in the next phase of Covid. It is vital that the new roadmap is less prescriptive in nature than previously. As I detail in the letter, the roadmap must provide the autonomy for all businesses, including those in the Experience Economy, to reopen fully in a safe and phased way.

You may have heard Ibec in the media already today, including an interview on Newstalk Breakfast, and in addition to this, I am due to appear on RTÉ News at One this afternoon to detail the key messaging of this letter. You’ll be able to listen in here

Ibec will continue to voice the concerns of the Irish business community to Government and I will be in touch in the coming days with an update on developments.

As always, please get in touch if you have any comments. It is always good to hear from you.

Regards,
