Political engagement on TCA & Protocol challenges

February 10, 2021

Dear member,

Ibec has issued a comprehensive letter to An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, setting out the many challenges facing business arising from the EU/UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland.  Our concerns are serious and continue to escalate with the backdrop of Covid creating additional complexities which have led to an absence of pragmatism. Resolving the issues facing business who export and import into Britain or have supply chains reliant of transiting through the UK, must be a priority.  We will also look to our stakeholders internationally and find ways to engage on this agenda.  The letter is attached below and has been copied to members of the Cabinet and senior Government officials.

We have had a number of opportunities to engage on this agenda over the course of the week including presenting to the Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the UK from the EU and hosting an event with the European Commission Task Force for Relations with the UK to provide a briefing on the TCA for Ibec members. If you missed this event you can watch back here.

As always, colleagues and I will continue to be the voice on these challenges and will work with domestic and international stakeholders to deliver impact and progress.

Best wishes,

Danny McCoy
CEO
