New beginnings for Government, Society and Business

June 26, 2020

Dear member,

This evening’s ratification of the coalition partners’ Programme for Government and the expected formation of a new Administration tomorrow is the unity and stability needed for these uncertain times. Historic in its makeup, it is very encouraging to see long term political divisions set aside in the interests of stability and the imperative of collectively addressing the socioeconomic challenges facing the country.

We will watch cabinet formation and portfolio allocations impacting upon business with interest. We will need to form new bonds and reset old ones in the weeks ahead, but the urgency for now is economic stimulus. The new Government must push ahead with an ambitious “July Stimulus” to sustain SMEs and get people back to work. We have given primacy to Sustaining SMEs this week in the media and provided you with messaging and context. Next Monday 29 July, from 08:30-09:30, the new beginning provides an important backdrop to an Ibec virtual event “Sustaining SMEs” with a stellar line up of SME CEOs. You can register to attend here.

Further positive developments have been taken in the reopening roadmap. Ibec’s lobbying bears fruit next Monday as we see many more businesses, particularly those in the hospitality and entertainment sectors, open again.

I leave you with the latest episode of Ibec Voices for some weekend listening and look forward to activating Ibec’s Reboot & Reimagine campaign with our new Government.

Best wishes,

Danny McCoy
