Public health services in Ireland are delivered across a network of 47 public hospitals, 22 voluntary hospitals and 19 private hospitals. The sector employs in the region of 120,000 staff, with public health service accounting for approximately two-thirds of all those employed in the sector, with voluntary hospitals employing over 25,000 people. Nearly one third of hospitals in Ireland are voluntary hospitals, and the sector nationally accounts for just under 30% of all inpatient care.
