Summary

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is not a future trend; it is a transformative force already reshaping the global life sciences landscape.

For Ireland, a world-leading hub for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and services, GenAI represents both a generational opportunity and a profound threat. With AI adoption projected to contribute at least €250 billion to Ireland’s GDP by 2035, the stakes are high. The pace of AI advancement is exponential, meaning the ‘cost of delay’ is compounding; companies that fail to adopt alongside competitors will face an accelerating competitive disadvantage.

However, nothing profound is simple to achieve. The central challenge is how to move beyond ‘proof-of-concept purgatory’ at speed – and integrate GenAI responsibly, at scale, within highly complex, regulated (GxP) environments.

This playbook provides the strategic and operational roadmap to navigate this transition. It synthesises the findings of the Connected Health Skillnet’s Generative AI Use Case Roadmap Programme, an intensive, industry-led collaboration involving five leading companies supported by Connected Health Skillnet and BioPharmaChem Ireland. All facilitated and contextualised by AI builders – and life science specialists – Brightbeam.
