Overview
Food Drink Ireland (FDI) has developed a free of charge, Food Safety Incident Management Guide, in conjunction with Pareire Consulting Ltd, to support member companies in strengthening their preparedness and response capabilities.
The guide has two focus areas:
- Prevention – It outlines key regulatory requirements, industry best practices and available external supports to help businesses review and enhance their existing food safety management and risk mitigation systems.
- Incident response – It provides practical guidance on the critical actions and decision-making processes required during a food safety incident.
Recognising that effective incident management requires a whole-of-business approach, the guide addresses the roles and responsibilities of senior leadership, governance, technical, operational, logistics, communications, legal and finance functions. It is designed to support food businesses in managing incidents efficiently, protecting consumers, maintaining business continuity, and safeguarding company/brand reputation.
The guide is complemented by a dedicated training programme delivered in partnership with Food Drink Ireland Skillnet. The training places a strong emphasis on crisis management preparedness and practical simulation exercises, enabling companies to test and strengthen their incident response capabilities in a realistic environment.
