The Employment Paradox – Nurturing Relations, Navigating Regulations

February 29, 2024

At this year’s annual Employment Law Conference, Ibec’s employment law experts will explore the topical issues of the day including retirement age, pensions, AI in the workplace, statutory sick leave, pay transparency, managing aggression and harassment in the workplace and the top cases of the last 12 months.

2024 will be a pivotal year for employment policy in Ireland, as developments continue apace. Several new policy initiatives, which will affect every business, have already dominated the headlines most particularly the imminently awaited Code of Practice on the right to request flexible working and remote working arrangements. We will examine the Code, its implications on your business, and your obligations under the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023 as regards flexible and remote working arrangements. Ibec’s solicitors will examine in detail further policy initiatives including the impending transposition of the Adequate Minimum Wage Directive, including Ireland’s future action plan for the promotion of collective bargaining. We will also examine in detail the Pay Transparency Directive and how it will impact your business, not least the onerous amendments it will bring to gender pay reporting, ensuring that you are well informed of the topical employment law policy measures of 2024.

The management of mandatory retirement ages and the associated areas of benefits and pensions is a huge challenge for human resource practitioners and businesses. Retaining control and seeking business certainty in succession planning, talent retention and attraction, ensuring an age diverse workforce and the provision of a safe place of work are at the centre of this challenge. In addition, the Government reform ambitions are firmly underway. The introduction of the flexible State pension system at the beginning of this year is already producing an uplift in Longer Working discussions in the workplace. 2024 promises additional proposed legislation in the areas of the Auto Enrolment Pension Savings Scheme and in regulating the use of mandatory retirement ages in contracts of employment. We will examine these challenges at the Ibec Employment Law Conference with a legal overview and dedicated panel discussion ensuring that you are well informed of the evolving employment rights landscape in an aging world.

Other matters for discussion include pay transparency, equality and positive action in the workplace and we will examine in detail recent case law on statutory sick leave. To make your voice heard in shaping the debate, sign up for this year’s employment law conference.
