Ibec's General Election Campaign
Whatever the exact date, the next General Election in Ireland will take place between now and March 2025.
To ensure that our members’ priorities are reflected in manifestos and ultimately the next Programme for Government, in September Ibec formally launched our General Election campaign.
Our General Election Manifesto is informed by the insights and experiences gathered from our members across the country. It outlines business priorities across four pillars - competitiveness, quality of life, Ireland's global positioning, and future workforce preparedness.
The main points are covered in our Ibec Responds Podcast where CEO Danny McCoy discuss the campaign with our Executive Director of Lobbying and Influence Fergal O’Brien and our Head of Public Affairs Nikki Gallagher.
Ibec believes that complacency—particularly regarding future business growth—is a significant risk ahead of the upcoming election. The landscape for Irish exporters in global markets is likely to be become increasingly more challenging, with the battle to attract new investment likely to intensify during the next Government's term. This is predominantly attributed to the rise of State-driven competition for investment, increasing geopolitical tensions, and decreasing trade openness.
Our message to all political parties is that business and economic growth will underpin much of the progress Ibec hopes to see during the next Government's term.
Ireland's current economic strength offers a generational opportunity for the next Government to address barriers to growth and tackle areas that threaten the country’s future prosperity.
Ibec is calling on the next Government to make significant strategic investments in areas currently hindering growth. These include speeding up infrastructure delivery, investing in public services, enhancing lifelong learning rates, and reducing regulatory burdens.
Elections always present an opportunity to reframe the challenges that drive society, but the upcoming general election will be one of the most consequential in recent times.
