Dr Yvonne O’Byrne Project Manager and Business Development, Irish Medtech Skillnet

In her role as Project Manager and Business Development Senior Executive with the Irish Medtech Skillnet, Yvonne is responsible for coordinating the development of new training programmes in collaboration with industry and academic partners, and leading the Industry Insights research projects which the Network undertakes to inform and guide the future direction of the Irish medtech industry across a broad range of topics, relevant to our sector.

In 2024, Yvonne took the lead in collaboration with the Irish Medtech Skillnet team to launch a landmark report, ‘Talent to Thrive: The Future Skills Report for Ireland’s Medtech Sector, 2024–2028’. This report provides a clear blueprint for the future skill needs of the Irish Medtech sector across five strategic pillars: Manufacturing, Research, Development and Innovation, Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs, and Human Resources and also addresses cross functional needs in digital and transversal skills.

Ed has been working in manufacturing and engineering for most of his career and is the Chair of the Medtech and Engineering Sustainability Working Group. He joined Galco as Group Sales & Marketing Manager in 1997 and became Group Managing Director in 2012.
Recognising that Sustainability was going to be essential for the continued development of all businesses in the Engineering and Construction markets, Ed developed a relationship with Enterprise Ireland and Goodbody Clearstream in 2021. This gained Galco access to one of Ireland’s leading sustainability consultants, to commence their journey and develop their Responsible Business Framework and Carbon Transition Plan, setting science-based targets up to 2030 and developing their CSRD/VSME reporting plans.
Ed has been a supporter of Ibec during this time and has previously been Chair of Ibec’s Engineering Trade Industry, and is currently Chair of the Medtech and Engineering Sustainability Working Group.

Eoghan Ó Faoláin is the Director of Irish Medtech, the Ibec group which represents the medical technology sector. Irish Medtech has more than 250 members, located throughout the island of Ireland. The group’s broad focus is to promote and support an environment that encourages the sustainable development and profitable growth of Ireland’s FDI and indigenous medtech companies. Eoghan has over 17 years’ experience with Ibec, having previously served as Ibec’s Head of Public Sector, supporting hospitals, further & higher education organisations and public sector bodies. Prior to that Eoghan held acting Director and Senior Executive positions in Technology Ireland, representing the technology, software & ICT sectors. Eoghan joined Ibec in 2008 as Regulatory Affairs Executive in Irish Medtech. Prior to joining Ibec, Eoghan successfully completed his PhD which deployed Raman spectroscopy in the diagnosis of cervical cancer at Technological University Dublin. Eoghan alongside colleagues at the FOCAS Research Institute, the Radiation and Environmental Science Centre (RESC), and collaborators at the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital and the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin, instigated the process of commercialising the technology with support from Enterprise Ireland, resulting in the filing of a worldwide patent of the technology developed.
