Irish Whiskey Association welcomes deferral of new labelling requirements
The Irish Whiskey Association (IWA) welcomes the Government’s decision to defer the introduction of complex new labelling rules for the drinks sector. This reprieve comes at a critical time for whiskey distillers who are already facing intense pressure. The proposed labelling legislation would have significantly increased packaging and labelling costs for our members, in some cases by over 35%.
As the Government is aware, our members are navigating a period of significant trade uncertainty, facing the risk of new tariffs on exports to one of our key markets – the United States – and the potential for further escalation.
We thank the Government for its continued support in what is a tumultuous time for the sector and remain committed to working with all institutions, both here and in Europe, on finding a solution to these ongoing trade issues.
