Influencing government - Ibec model for income continuance

March 23, 2020

Dear member,

You will be aware of the intense and necessary focus on the introduction of strong emergency income continuance measures for employees impacted by this crisis.  The Ibec team has developed a model for these measures which includes employer and employee features, baseline cost assumptions and the scale of resources required. The main elements of Ibec’s proposals are as follows:

A state subvention of 70% of basic salary for impacted employees.
Employers continue to pay and Government payment made to employers within a 7 day notification period.
An online platform for Revenue to manage and process the applications.
Initial duration of 20 weeks but option for extension.

We are in ongoing contact with Cabinet Ministers, politicians and departmental officials to influence the outcome of a Government announcement on this matter in the coming days.  Please find a link below to our proposal and do let me know if you have any comments or queries.

I would also like to let you know that the Ibec podcast will move its focus to the business response and action to the Covid crisis. We will bring you a range of voices from Ibec and members with insights, positions and stories from business. Search and find the “Ibec on COVID-19” Podcast wherever you get your podcasts.

Best wishes,

Danny McCoy
