Welcome to the introductory episode of a series of mini Ibec Voices episodes focusing on the proceedings at COP26 over the next two weeks, with regular updates and insights provided by Dr Neil Walker, Head of Infrastructure, Energy and the Environment at Ibec.

The 26th annual Conference of the Parties, COP26, of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is currently underway in Glasgow. The 12-day event, attended by world leaders from almost every country on the planet, is widely regarded as 'the last best chance to get runaway climate change under control'.

In this episode Dr Neil Walker will place the UN conference at the nexus of a major geopolitical issue, namely the need for more concerted action to stave off imminent environmental disaster. It also touches on the role of the EU as an honest broker, seeking to punch above its weight by inspiring through example. And finally it puts Ireland’s own performance as a member of the EU under the spotlight.

Stay tuned for upcoming podcasts live from COP26 in Glasgow, including the next episode where Dr Neil Walker will cover the opening statements from the assembled world leaders on the Conference opening day.
