Return to office

August 31, 2021

Dear member,

With the Government’s Roadmap announcement this evening, it is positive for business to have the certainty of a phased return to the office, and clarity on capacity and phasing for those in the remainder of the Experience Economy.

Most businesses have been planning for a phased and managed return of colleagues to the office for opportunities to meet, innovate, and collaborate in person. Government policy is now aligned with this business imperative. In response to our request to the Taoiseach last week, businesses now have the autonomy to determine with their stakeholders not just the “what” and “how” to return to new patterns of activity, but also the “when” to do so.

The next challenge is to address office logistics, social distancing, and other control measures, together with consistent guidance on managing close contacts. Ibec will address these outstanding issues at tomorrow morning’s meeting of the High-Level Stakeholder Consultation Forum on the Work Safety Protocol, which is chaired by the Department of the Taoiseach. I will keep you updated on these details as they evolve.

It is very refreshing to have the full public transportation capacity available, with educational and training possibilities moving back to normality. It is also most welcome that the Experience Economy industries, the night-time economy in particular, has been given the autonomy to resume over the coming seven weeks.

After the many bad days we shared over the last year and a half, it is welcome to be able to acknowledge the progress that our society has made collectively to reach this good day.

As ever, your feedback is very welcome.

Best wishes,

Danny
