4.3.2 Legal and other requirements

Step 6: Identify and evaluate legal obligations and other requirements

One of the important clauses of I.S. EN 16001 is that organisations ensure they comply with all energy related legislation and other requirements which are applicable to their energy aspects

The Ibec EHS Legislation Hub provides subscribers with a list of EHS legislation, a short summary of the main implications of this legislation and the relevance to the subscribing company.


Subscribers can view this information on all legislation, but only select that which is relevant to their activities. When you have identified the legislation relevant to your activities you can generate a pdf register of your selection.


When you have made your initial selection of relevant legislation you can access and amend this at any stage. This will allow you to amend your list of relevant legislation as your own activities change.

There are three parts to the hub:

Irish Environment:

This service is driven by requirements such as IED and IPC licensing, environmental management systems e.g. ISO 14001 and EMAS, corporate audits and environmental liability.


Irish Health and Safety

This service meets the growing need for integrated environmental health and safety systems to ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and certification such as ISO 45001.


EU Environment

In order to be fully compliant with all its legislative requirements, businesses needs to be aware of environmental legislation made by the institutions of the European Union, which does not require Irish transposing legislation in order to have effect. This service concentrates on environmental EU Regulations which are directly applicable in Ireland and place legally binding requirements on Irish companies.

Subscribers will receive a monthly email update including a detailed list of all new EHS legislation which have been added to the EHS Hub.

  • A list and summary of relevant new legislation.
  • A brief description of the implications of the legislation.
  • Each of these pieces of legislation can be viewed on-line and identified as 'relevant' or 'not relevant' to your company.
  • Based on your selection a single document can be generated to create a list and give details of all legislation relevant to your activities.
  • When you have done this for the first time this selection will remain when you log-in at a later date.

This allows you to update your selection as your company activities change.

How much does the service cost?

The service is an annual subscription and cost is based on number of users within your company.

The service is invoiced on the calendar year.

Elisha joined Ibec in 2015, as an OHS Executive supporting and advising member companies on occupational health and safety in the workplace. She holds a Bsc Hons Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Sligo IT. Prior to joining Ibec, Elisha has worked as a Health and Safety Consultant and as an EHS officer.

Elisha is now responsible for the Hub that provides subscribers with details of ongoing and new developments in Environmental Health and Safety legislation both nationally and at a European level. Subscribers receive updates on a monthly basis and are able to identify and produce bespoke reports on the progress of environmental legislation pertaining to their company.
