Reminder: the first Digital Product Passport mandatory requirement goes live next year
As you know, the European Commission recently launched a new Digital Product Passport (DPP) Registry and webpage.
The DPP Registry is the EU database supporting the Digital Product Passport system. It will be established at EU level and will store the unique identifiers for each product, alongside mandatory registration data as specified in the applicable legal act.
As part of the DPP Registry launch, the Commission also launched the Testing Environment and the User Guide. The Testing Environment allows users to explore DPP features and workflows in a safe test environment, without affecting live data or real processes. User Guide provides detailed instructions for Economic Operators on enrolling an organisation and registering and managing DPPs.
Please note that the first sector requiring mandatory DPP is for certain types of batteries including electric vehicles, light means of transport and industrial batteries on 18 February 2027. For guidance from the Commission, they ran a webinar on DPP for Batteries. Iron and steel and Textiles will follow later in 2027.
