Launch of Intelligence:Applied Programme to support Irish workers and business to adopt AI

October 20, 2026

Last week, the Government launched a new programme, Intelligence:Applied, to accelerate AI adoption across the economy and public sector, and to position Ireland as one of the world’s leading locations for responsible applied AI. The programme will see 35 impactful initiatives implemented over the period to 2030 under the themes of People, Economy, Infrastructure and Ecosytem, building on the ambition set out in the National Digital & AI Strategy, Digital Ireland.

In addition to supporting enterprise to adopt AI, a key focus of the programme is supporting Irish workers through skills and educational opportunities. The Government will roll out AI literacy programmes at all levels of society, with support for citizens and enterprise, so that everyone can adapt to and take advantage of AI opportunities. One of the initiatives include a new national AI Regulatory Sandbox Programme to be established by the AI Office of Ireland in 2027, with prioritised access for SMEs and startups.
