Digital Product Passport Launched
A part of the implementation of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the European Commission has launched the Digital Product Passport (DPP) Registry, together with a testing environment and a dedicated helpdesk. The Registry provides secure infrastructure for economic operators to register Digital Product Passports, including their unique identifiers and associated metadata. The Digital Product Passport is being rolled out across several pieces of legislation, including certain large batteries, construction products, toys, detergents and end-user surfactants. While the application dates to register Digital Product Passports under these pieces of legislation have not yet passed, the launch of the Registry and testing environment will allow businesses to prepare for implementation. All information can be accessed via the newly launched Digital Product Passport website.
The European Commission will continue developing and optimising the Registry based on the current testing phase to support a smooth rollout ahead of the first implementation deadline on 18 February 2027 for certain types of large batteries.
