WRC Upholds Dismissal for Breach of Remote Working Policy
With many Irish employees able to work remotely on a full time or hybrid basis, a recent WRC decision highlights the importance of having a clear remote working policy in place to ensure full compliance.
An employee whose employment was terminated by a brokerage firm recently appeared in front of the Workplace Relations Commission. The Complainant was dismissed due to serious breaches of the company's remote working policy and challenged her ex-employer’s decision under the Unfair Dismissal Act.
The employee, who had worked as a Client Services Associate since 2021, argued that the investigation and disciplinary process were flawed and that the decision to dismiss was not an appropriate sanction.
