European Chemical Agency Consultation

June 30, 2026

European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has launched a 60-day public consultation on the draft opinion of the Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) regarding the proposed restriction of certain chromium (VI) oxides, oxyacids and salts. These substances are widely used in industrial processes such as surface treatment, plating and corrosion protection.

The consultation provides an opportunity for stakeholders to submit evidence and information to support the finalisation of SEAC’s opinion. Contributions may include data on socio‑economic impacts, the availability of alternatives, costs, benefits and considerations related to transition periods. The deadline for submissions is 17 August 2026.

Further information on the consultation and supporting materials, including background information, is available here. Comments can be submitted via the ECHA consultation page here.

To support stakeholder engagement in the consultation process, ECHA recently hosted an online webinar outlining the scope of the restriction, the substances and uses covered, and the type of evidence being sought. The webinar recording can be watched here.
