European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) consultation on restriction proposal on chromium (VI) substances
At the request of the European Commission, the ECHA have assessed certain hexavalent chromium substances and are proposing an EU-wide restriction. The restriction is aimed at reducing harmful effects of chromium (VI) substances to both workers and the public. The introduction of this restriction could replace the current authorisation requirements under REACH.
ECHA aim to start a six-month consultation on the 18 June 2025, where stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input and feedback. Additionally, ECHA are planning an online information session to explain the restriction process and to assist stakeholders in this public consultation.
Further information on the proposed restriction can be found – here. The European Commission’s request to ECHA and the pre-consultation report can be located – here.
