Water charges to rise by 9.8%
Two weeks ago, the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) published its decision for Uisce Éireann’s non-domestic water and wastewater tariffs to increase by 9.8% from 1st October. At a time of exceptional international and economic uncertainty, the timing of these tariff increases is extremely unfortunate. Ibec and the SFA had made separate but aligned policy submissions a few months ago, calling for the Government to cover the non-domestic water tariff increase for 2025, which is projected to be €35 million, among other recommendations.
Please find HERE a briefing note from Ibec on the proposed increases and the implications for business. Ibec is calling for Government to cover the non-domestic water tariff increase for 2025/26. This is a recommendation in Ibec’s pre-Budget submission, Matching Vigilance with Agility. Ibec recognises the need for Uisce Éireann to receive the funding it needs to properly cover the costs of servicing businesses and communities and expand much-needed water infrastructure across the country. With this non-domestic tariff increase covered by the Exchequer, Uisce Éireann’s planned operations to ensure the reliability, efficiency and sustainability of water services would be unaffected.
Ibec has written to Minister James Browne following the announcement by CRU and will also be engaging with the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland on this issue. The SFA will keep its members informed of any significant developments as they happen.
