Health & Safety campaign
For the last few years as part of the Drinks Ireland | Beer work programme, the Technical Committee has created a Health & Safety campaign on three key hazards as identified and approved by members. The 2025 campaign is on CO2 safety, slips trips and falls, and manual handling and the theme is the risks and responsibilities for both employers and employees on these hazards from an educational and awareness point of view. This campaign is supported by the Health & Safety Authority, and circulated by the LVA, VFI and IHF to their membership.

As part of our campaign to promote safety in bar cellars, Drinks Ireland | Beer in partnership with the Health & Safety Authority (HSA), launched a programme where licensed premises are encouraged to carry out risk assessments on their bars and cellar. The assessment can be conducted online, for free, through the HSA’s BeSMART website.
The programme is tailored for publicans and bar managers, aiming to improve safety standards across their premises, with a particular focus on cellar areas. The assessment process includes identifying potential hazards and verifying that all staff are properly trained to prevent accidents. Upon completion, the premises will receive an official Safety Statement issued by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
The Cellar Safety Programme is the first initiative of its kind in Ireland, developed to enhance workplace safety for thousands of employees, service providers, and customers within the hospitality sector.
