Disability Employment Supports
The Department of Social Protection has a programme called ‘Employability’ which is primarily aimed at supporting people with disabilities to find or keep a job. It is a national service improving employment outcomes for job seekers with health conditions, injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. The programme operates through Intreo Partners in local communities on behalf of the department.
What supports are there for employers?
- Free recruitment services and access to a database of skilled job seekers.
- Ongoing support from professional job coaches and advice on employment grants.
- Support during the in-employment phase.
Who is eligible for disability supports?
- Clients between 18 and 65 years that need support or assistance, finding or sustaining employment.
- Clients must be ‘Job Ready’. Job Ready is having the necessary training, education, motivation and ability to work.
- The service operates on the basis of voluntary engagement and is open to all social welfare claimants and those on no payment.
Wage Subsidy Scheme
A wage subsidy program is a government-funded initiative that provides financial support to employers to hire or retain specific employees, often targeting those with disabilities or in industries impacted by crises. It offsets the costs of wages or productivity gaps, generally requiring a minimum number of working hours and a formal contract.
- Financial incentive for non-public sector employers to hire persons with disabilities.
- Rates start at €6.30 per hour for a minimum of 15 hours per week, with a maximum subsidy of 39 hours.
- Additional funding available for multiple employees on the scheme.
Jobsplus - Payroll Subsidy
Available for employers hiring unemployed eligible individuals for at least 30 hours per week.
Two payment rates: €7,500 and €10,000, depending on age and period of unemployment.
Disability Supports - Work Access
- Various grants available for workplace needs assessments, communication support, personal readers, in-work support, and workplace adaptations.
- Grant amounts range from €2,500 to €25,000 depending on the type of support.

- Applications require forms, quotes, and supplier setup.
- Approval must be granted before making any purchases related to Work Access.
