The industry has a strong track record in this area already, through decades of investment in ever-more efficient aircraft. This is continuing into the present with billions being invested in the transition of the global fleet to new technology lower emissions aircraft, and this investment will be sustained into the future as new models come on stream.
Through the actions we are taking, the aircraft leasing industry will continuously improve its sustainability performance and lessors will continue to support airline customers’ desire to lower their emissions. We will play our part and prove progress is possible.
Net Zero by 2050
We support the industry’s collective ambition to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. With the entire aircraft lifecycle taken into consideration, a combination of pathways toward transformative change is underway. Aircraft design improvements, operational efficiencies, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and alternative propulsion (electrical, hydrogen) all play a role. Ireland, with its innovative ecosystem, is well positioned to lead in SAF development and clean technology research.
