Retail Ireland Monitor May 2023

There has been an increased focus on inflation, particularly grocery inflation, over recent weeks. As this month’s edition demonstrates, the Irish retail sector has been significantly

more successful than others at insulating customers from cost increases. Irish food inflation over the last two years has been 17% compared to an EU average of 27%. The sector is

also highly competitive and has a track record of delivering value to customers over the last ten years. Retail Ireland is working to ensure there is balance in the debate, and the factors driving inflation are understood and inform the policy response.
